German WWII 1st Class Merit Cross With Swords

Description

A truly remarkable piece!

This cross was issued during the 2nd world war and could be awarded to military personnel and civilians alike.

This award was created by Adolf Hitler in October 1939 as a successor to the non-combatant Iron Cross which was used in earlier wars.

This one would have been awarded to a soldier for exceptional service and is in fairly good condition though signs of wear & age are certainly present.

The pin on the back is marked “4” meaning it would have been created by Steinhauer & Luck in Ludenscheid.
